this book gives me a headache

Tunnel book I made for the class I'm currently in.

I'm working on a nicer one, this was just to get some of the technique down. I like it, even though it's crude...

thoth

There was a message in those hieroglyphs but I kind of messed it up... also some of it's behind his head and some is backwards. You probably don't care enough to try to decode it, but it's basically Thoth telling you he's a badass.

conglaturations

Another one of these... this one was done for an extra special occasion, so I did it a little differently so I could give him the original. Go Alex!

paint doesn't come out of clothes

So I thought, why not paint a shirt?

I can't wait to lose my Pride virginity this year.

my painting process

When I paint, I work in layers. The background color goes down first. I find this easier than putting the subject in first and then having to paint the background around it. Less annoying white spaces and having to redo things that way. Usually before this I make a sketch with a rough idea of what colors I want to use.. other times I just wing it.

Next I start to fill in the shapes. The color I'm using here is a little bit lighter and more red/orange than what I actually want. I want this figure to look a little bit three dimensional, so I use a shade closer to the background color so that some parts will blend with it a little more, and look farther away.

Using both red and purple to shade and add highlights. In the center of the figure's chest I'm using cooler colors, since it's further away from the orange background. Using red more on the arm, ribs etc. Unfortunately this picture doesn't accurately show the colors... wish I could show it to you in person.

The necklaces were not originally part of the plan, but I added them because the figure's skin was very dark and not interesting to look at compared to the feathers on top. However I still want the mask to be the focal point, so I had to make sure not to make any of the jewelry too bright. The yellow was originally much brighter, I had to cool it down and darken it a bit because it was taking attention away from the mask too much.

And now you knooooowww

more brown paper

Did these while waiting out a storm in a coffee shop. Sometimes I get tired of neon colors...

another other

I just recently learned about Fauvism. It's basically a style that uses unrealistic colors that are meant to represent a feeling or capture the personality of the person they portray. Pretty much exactly what I've been doing with these pictures, but I never knew it had a name. I've drawn this boy before (in my Christmas post), but the colors I used for him didn't really suit his personality like the other ones did. He's Irish so I just used green, orange and white. While I doubt he noticed or cared about this, it's been bothering me because I'm a little bit perfectionist when it comes to my art. Just a little.

Not that that's the only reason I did this.

final

Final project for class‐ use color to show mood.

I'm not really sure what to call this. Rebirth, Sunrise, Coming Out? Take your pick, I've got more... it's something I've had in mind for a while, really emotional for me and I kind of feel weird using it as a class project. But I think that to really express mood in art it's good to draw stuff based on your own experiences and feelings.

If you know me, you know what it's about. If you don't, hello stranger! How did you find my blog?

project 5

These are some seriously horrible, blurry photos... They look so much nicer in person, but that seems to always be true of paintings.

So this is another project for class. Two pictures with the same design, but different colors, to make different things pop or fade into the background.
This is also the (almost!) final draft of a tattoo I want. Once I can afford it I'd like to have these guys crawling up my arm. But I think I'll have the right monkey's tail curling in the other direction. Seems like that would tie the design together a little better.

project 3

Did these for my acrylic painting class. The assignment was to make a bunch of small designs using some basic design principles. Some of them aren't that great but others I like a lot.

If you've ever seen me in person, you know that this is exactly what I look like 99% of the time.

from the sketch book 3

Busy lately. I'm back in school and moved out of my parent's place. Living alone is pretty cool. It's like I'm all grown up, except I'm still totally not.

I played a drinking game with some friends a while ago that involved drawing. What you see to your left is the result.

I've been doing little sketches of people like this for a couple of years now, and I'm just starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of it.

But things don't always go as planned.
